#CelebrateEdoState....... Celebrities who are from Edo State


Edo State is 24 today!!

Today is the day the State was created and I am going to put up some posts with the hash tag #CelebrateEdoState.

The first post I will put up, is a post celebrating the people you may not have known are from Edo State. From actors and actresses, to media personalities and captains of industries, my State has produced them all. (yay!! I'm a proud Edolite.....*lol*).

Join me as I count down the first part of top celebs from the State.

Dele Momodu…….
He is the brain behind glossy lifestyle mag, Ovation.  His fight for democracy in Nigeria in the 90s saw him go into exile when the government felt he was a threat.He has also contested for the presidential seat in the past. He is from Ihievbe village, in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State.



Chief Odigie Oyegun…….
He is the present chairman of Nigeria’s ruling party, ‘APC’. Chief Oyegun made history in the 90s when he was elected Governor of Edo State as this made him the first democratically elected governor of the State. He is from the Benin speaking tribe.



Cynthia Morgan………

Cynthia Ikponmwenosa Morgan otherwise known as Cynthia Morgan is the songstress who made dance hall cool again. Extremely eccentric in both behaviour and appearance, she started her journey to musical stardom in Benin City before she moved to Lagos where she was discovered by Jude ‘Egness’ Okoye. She is from the Benin speaking tribe in Edo State.

Soni Irabor………
He is a respected PR and advertising practitioner whose talk show ‘Soni Irabor Live’ on AIT made him a house hold name and one of the most recognisable faces on TV.
This one time commissioner in Edo State is currently the CEO of Inspiration FM. He is from the Benin speaking tribe and is married to………………….

…..Betty Irabor….
She is the publisher of Nigeria’s longest circulating female targeted magazine, Genevieve. She is also one of the most stylish women in Nigeria who started her journey into the world of journalism with the late MKO Abiola’s Concord newspapers. Just like her husband, she is from the Benin speaking tribe of Edo State.
 

Peter Odemwingie……
He is the extremely out spoken former Super Eagles player who was never afraid to air his views while he was with the team. He is from the Benin speaking tribe of Edo State.
 


Mai Atafo………..
This former Guinness Nigeria executive  is the brain behind fashion label ‘Mai Atafo Inspired (MAI). He is one of the most celebrated designers in Nigeria right now. He has showcased his clothes in major fashion shows in Nigeria and Africa.
He is a favourite amongst celebs as his clothes have been worn by Munachi Abii, Ebuka Ochendo,Ik Osakioduwa amongst others.  He is from Ora in Edo State.
 




Mercy Aigbe……
Mercy Aigbe is one of the most popular actresses in the Yoruba genre and has even won awards for her interpretation of movies in this genre. Most people will be shocked to know that she isn’t Yoruba. She is actually from the Benin speaking tribe of Edo State.



Moet Abebe……
She is a VJ and aspiring actress. She is the late Stella Obasanjo’s niece and is from the Esan speaking tribe of Edo State.
Skales……..

Raoul John Njeng-Njeng aka Skales may have grown up in Kaduna State, but this Edo State born musician was introduced to us via EME music label where he released the hit single “Mukulu”. Rumour has it that he was dropped by the label, but he did not allow this deter him as he continued his musical journey on his own by starting his own record label ‘Ohk music’ and has released hits like ‘Shake body’, ‘Take care of me’ among others.





Waje
 Aituaje Aina Vivian Ebele Iruobe aka Waje is the songstress with one of the most powerful voices with a vocal range that reportedly covers three octaves. She is from Sabongida Ora in Edo State.


Modupe Ozolua………
She is the socialite and Entrepreneur who made plastic surgery popular and acceptable in Nigeria. She is also the founder and president of body enhancement reconstructive surgery (BEARS) foundation. Arc. Bishop Desmond Tutu is said to be the patron of the foundation.
Modupe is from Sabogida Ora in Edo State.
