Supreme Court orders EFCC to Prosecute ex-Gov Orji Uzor Kalu over N5.6bn fraud

The Supreme court has given the EFCC, the go ahead to prosecute former governor of Abia State, Gov. Orji Uzor Kalu over allegations of fraud, money laundering and illegal diversion of public funds to the tune of N5.6billion while he served as governor.

The governor has been trying to frustrate the case for the past 9 yrs as he was initially arraigned by the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court. He however challenged the competence of the court and took the case to Court of Appeal in Abuja. The court of appeal however upheld the competence of the court. The governor did not give up as he took the case to the Supreme Court, who once again upheld the decision of EFCC to prosecute him.

Reacting to the decision of the Supreme Court, the former governor said he is ready for prosecution.
“This is another opportunity to prove my innocence. I have all the records and facts of the case. I am willing to submit myself for the rule of law to take its course. That has always been my passionate advocacy right from the lower courts where the case emanated".
