Workers under the Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) took to the streets yesterday to protest the non regularization of their appointment.
The governor, Gov. Adams Oshiomole, promised to employ thousands of Edo youths when he initially campaigned for office during his first tenure. When he won, he set up the YES scheme....which actually employed Edo youths.....as casual workers.
The governor unfortunately sacked all the workers under the scheme, despite his promise to absorb them into the State civil service of the state (read the report here which proves he actually said it), with all the benefits attached. The governor unfortunately sacked all the staff employed under the scheme moths later. Fast forward to a few months ago this year....the governor once again promised to employ them. This time around, the workers understandably become impatient and took matters into their hands by protesting.
