Former Minister for Agriculture,Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, wins World Food Prize

Our....see the way I am claiming him as 'Our'....*lol* Nigeria's former minister for agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has been named this year's recipient of the prestigious, ' World Food Prize Laureate'.
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, who was the Minister for Agriculture under ex Pres. Jonathan's administration, is the 8th and current president of the African Development Bank. This is not his first international award though  as Dr. Adesina, whose father was a farmer was named Forbes 'African of the year' in 2013.

He was bestowed with the honour in the US by the World
Food Prize Foundation. The award is given out in honour of an Iowa plant scientist, Norman Borlaug.
The award is usually referred to as the Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture with its 1994 winner, Bangladeshi microfinance advocate Muhammad Yunus, going on to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.With this award comes the price money of $250,000.

His diligent work in increasing food production in Africa, Dr. Adesina was announced today as the 2017 World Food Prize Laureate. Spearheading agricultural production through innovative policy reform and financing opportunities, Dr. Adesina has helped smallholder farmers and expanded food production across the continent.
He also reduced corruption in the fertilizer industry, increasing credit for smallholder farmers and expanding food production by 21 million metric tons.
